Infamous vet Luciano Ponzetto sparked a huge online backlash after posing with the big game animals he killed on hunting trips last year.
The 55-year-old Italian, who had his own veterinary clinic near Turin, Italy, shared so many photos of his trophy kills online that animal rights activists started campaigning against him.
Despite the online furore, Luciano defended his position, saying that being a vet “is not incompatible with hunting, either morally or professionally”.
Luciana was backed by the Italy Veterinarian’s guild, who stated that, as hunting is legal in Italy, they would not take action against him.
But, in a tragic twist of fate, Luciano’s last hunting trip proved to be fatal. The vet slipped on ice and fell 100ft down a ravine whilst trying to shoot birds, and was killed instantly, according to local police.
“His body was recovered by helicopter and taken to a local hospital,” said an Italian officer, “It looks like he slipped and fell when he was out hunting. There was nothing that could be done.”
