Being a judge is surely difficult, but this seems like a case that was totally blown.
Adam Shigwadja was arrested last year after he broke into Putney-Wilcox's home, put a knife to her throat and tried to force her outside. He was arrested but eventually released on $10,000 bail. He was also ordered to stay away from her.
After the first incident she applied for a restraining order against him but her application was denied the same day that it was filed. Now another terrifying incident has prompted her to speak to others about domestic violence.
Putney-Wilcox's brother came into the room, fending off Shigwadja with a baseball bat, which somehow ended up cutting her in the head, a wound which required 20 stitches. She sees the scar as a reminder that she would not be here without her brother saving her. "Every single person deserves better than what I went through and a lot of women are going through," she said about domestic violence.
