A shocked woman was left with a $163 bill after an online date invited her to a fancy restaurant, ordered lots of food and drink, then left without paying.
Diane Guilmette joined dating site Plenty Of Fish when she received a “very flattering” message from a man later identified as Paul Gonzales. She agreed to meet him, and the pair planned a date in an expensive restaurant.
Diane said Paul ordered “a lot of food” and several glasses of wine as they got to know each other at Morton’s Steakhouse in LA, US.
She thought everything was going well, until Paul went outside to “make a phone call” — and never came back.
Diane waited around 15 minutes before she realized her date wasn’t coming back. She tried to message him on the Plenty Of Fish app, only to discover he had blocked her.
Diane was forced to pay the full bill out of her own pocket and quickly took to social media to share her story, where other women who had been conned by Paul started to come forward.
On each date, Paul had picked a high-end restaurant before sneaking out, leaving his date to pick up the tab.
One unnamed woman was left with a bill over $100 after Paul “went to the bathroom” and never returned.
Police discovered that Paul is also facing two pending cases of petty theft, and stands accused of failing to pay for a haircut earlier this year.
