Heartbreaking story and video.
On February 15, 2012, baby Greyson James was born to Heather and Patrick Walker in Memphis, Tenessee. The baby boy was born with anencephaly and lived for only eight hours. Anencephaly is a rare birth defect wherein a baby is born without parts of brain and skull.
The couple took pictures of their precious baby boy, which Heather later uploaded to Facebook. Shortly after, the pictures were deleted from her account. Heather couldn't understand why. She managed to get some family and friends to protest to Facebook about this action, but it resulted in her being banned from the network altogether.
Facebook's community standards forbid nine categories of content from the site, which are: Violence and Threats, Self-Harm, Harassment and Persecution, Hate Speech, Graphic Violence, State of undress and Pornography, Identity and Privacy, Intellectual Property and Phishing and Spam.
None of the categories was related to her pictures. And Facebook said nothing about the ban at the beginning, until, some hours later, an update was released.
âUpon research, we established the photo does not encroach upon our guiding principle and was deleted by a mistake. Facebook is a platform where nearly a billion people post more than 300 million photos a day. Our devoted User Operations Team evaluates millions of bits of this content a day to support keep Facebook safe for all ages. Our guidelines are imposed by a team of critics in several offices around the globe. This team keeps a close watch on hundreds of thousands of reports every week, and as you might anticipate, sometimes, we commit a blunder and delete a piece of content we shouldnât have. We extend our earnest commiserations to the family and we genuinely make an apology for any inconvenience caused."
Facebook also clarified that her account had never been suspended, but that she had been temporarily banned from posting pictures since one of hers had been removed. This occurs robotically whenever a user is alerted for uploading an inappropriate content.
Watching this video one thing is crystal clear: during the eight hours that this baby lived, he received all the love in the world, And that love deserves a place on any platform.
